With active listening, understanding and careful questions that aim to explore your current emotional distress, this forms the foundation on which we can build the most helpful way forward for you to reduce the psychological and physical impact of that stressor.

Crisis intervention and recovery focuses on what is happening for you right here, right now.

Crisis is a time for acute awareness as to what you are experiencing and how you can restore better wellbeing with capacity to function simple tasks and daily self-care.

Crisis intervention does not concern itself with ‘root cause’ , more often this is historic in nature and may involve a more in-depth approach once the crisis has fully subsided.

With this in mind, I take a whole-person solution-focussed approach as to what will work for you in the immediacy of your distress. This follows the key principles and spirit of solution focussed brief therapy (SFBT).

Once this (solution) is realised, there are many tools, skills and strategies that I work with to provide you with the psycho-education and techniques that are easy to follow, soothing and empowering you towards an improved sense of control. I apply this through CBT for stress and anxiety, soft-focus goal-setting, positive psychology and evidence-based relaxation.

There are different options on how to work with me and can include counselling, self-compassion pause and return to wellness with prevention planning. These plans are co created and led by you.

The intention is to create a realistic and practical self-help guide that you can return to time again whenever you start to feel those early stages of anxiety and stress kicking-in.

The plans are to be filled with uplifting, motivating and comforting things you can do for yourself in those darkening moments.

The overall benefit to you is to become your own therapist.

It is a skill to learn.

And just like going to the gym to build physical muscle, the brain is a muscle that needs to learn and grow into new behaviour and adapt with positive responses towards stress and triggers in your environment.
